Google now lets hardware developers tinker with its Assistant

The obvious options would be more speakers that offer similar capabilities to Google Home and the Amazon Echo, but it doesn't have to be limited to just these types of hardware products.

To setup the cooking instructions, you'll need to find a recipe using Google Assistant, choosing from over 5 million recipes from Bon Appetit, The New York Times and the Food Network. That will save the recipe to your Google Home.

"With this SDK, you can now start building your own hardware prototypes that include the Google Assistant, like a self-built robot or a voice-enabled smart mirror", Google told developers on Thursday.

Google has long said that it wants to open up its Assistant to a broader ecosystem of hardware companies and developers.

Say "OK Google, start cooking" to get a break down, and you can say "OK Google, repeat" to hear the last step once more.

Devices like Google Home are great for use in the kitchen. After you've found one you like, click "Send to Google Home". The recipe is sent to your Google Home even if you're not near it.

Getting started isn't hard, and hopefully the recipes aren't either. The same can be done with previous steps. Ask your speaker for a recipe.

Ramsdales notes that "Developers do not now have to pay a licensing fee to embed the Google Assistant".

If you need to repeat a step, this can be done by saying "Ok Google, repeat" or "Ok Google, what's step two?"

This feature will roll out over the coming weeks.
