Randolph Alles is expected to be tapped to lead the Secret Service. he has served as the acting deputy commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection since Donald Trump's inauguration. He comes to the Secret Service after serving in several roles with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, most recently being appointed acting deputy commissioner on January 20, the day President Donald Trump took office. Alles is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he commanded Marine Aircraft Group 11 and Third Marine Aircraft Wing.

Alles, a retired Marine two-star general, now serves as acting deputy commissioner of Customs and Border Protection. Two uniformed Secret Service officers were fired over their handling of the incident, and others involved are facing possible disciplinary action.

The Secret Service has ranked among the lowest of all federal agencies in terms of employee morale, and the conduct of some of its agents has raised eyebrows and led to disciplinary actions and retirements.

Randoph "Tex" Alles, shown here testifying before Congress in 2015, is President Trump's pick to head the Secret Service.

The appointment comes as the Secret Service has faced criticism over a breach at the White House complex.

He replaces Joseph Clancy, who retired from the top role for a second time in March.

After retiring from the Marine Corps as a two-star general, Alles joined CBP in 2012.

The position of Secret Service director is filled by presidential appointment and does not require confirmation by the Senate.

When President Obama opted to install Clancy as director, he did so in defiance of a recommendation from the bipartisan White House security panel which recommended a new director come from outside the agency.
