The truth is out there: 'The X-Files is coming back

An eleventh season of The X-Files has been rumored for some time, so it's not entirely shocking to hear that it's all been finalized. After the evident success of the six-episode The X-Files revival miniseries, Fox is ready to go further.

Deadline reports that Fox has picked up 10 episodes of The X-Files to start production this summer, in what is essentially a continuation of last year's reboot.

The X-Files is officially returning to TV screens with ten new episodes, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Federal Bureau of Investigation agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

As of now, The X-Files are slated to return for Fox's 2017-18 season, which likely means another winter premiere, possibly after the Super Bowl again.

It looks like the truth is still out there as Fox has announced that they have picked up The X-Files once again for an 11th season that will continue off of the cliffhanger ending from last year's revival.

The good news is that Fox has made a decision to oblige because the network has since announced and confirmed that the TV series will be returning for Season 11.

The only reason it even took this long for news of a new season to break was scheduling conflicts, rather than hesitation on the part of Fox or anyone else.

In January, Madden was hopeful that all parties involved would come to a mutual agreement to continue The X-Files. The new installment will consist of 10 episodes, giving writers more leeway in telling the story of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. There wasn't an interest in going back and doing another 22 episodes, but the ratings were certainly good enough to justify more than six. Mulder, whose own family's experience with alien abduction has him wanting to believe, partners with the more skeptical medical doctor Scully. It seems the fans agree, as the previous season grabbed tons of viewers, which trumps critical opinion any day of the week.
