Carl Vinson strike group isn't heading directly to Korea

Such a defiant move was likely to draw even more pressure from the United States which ordered its nuclear-powered USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group to the region, Lu told the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post.

White House officials said a sequence of communication miscues with the Defense Department were to blame for the mix-up.

U.S.S. Carl Vinson sailing Saturday in between the coasts of Indonesia and Australia - a hell of a long way from North Korea. Citing missile tests, he then said North Korea remained "the number one threat in the region". "We have submarines, very powerful, far more powerful than the aircraft carrier", Trump told the Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo last week.

By the time the White House was asked about the Carl Vinson on April 11, its imminent arrival had been emblazoned on front pages across East Asia, fanning fears that Mr Trump was considering a pre-emptive military strike on North Korea.

China and Russia, which prioritize stability in the Korean Peninsula, showed concern over the tough USA stance, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying the issue should be resolved peacefully through political and diplomatic efforts.

Several news reports last week claimed the Carl Vinson and several ships that accompany it were steaming toward the Sea of Japan to keep a close eye on North Korea.

Now the White House is blaming the Pentagon for creating a false narrative about the travels of the Vinson, according to multiple media reports.

After declining to discuss military movements initially, Trump then said that, "We are sending an armada". U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that both Trump and Xi agreed on the "urgency of the threat of North Korea's nuclear weapon program" and also both agreed to work on it together to peacefully solve the issue.

The strike group includes Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy, embarked Carrier Air Wing 2 and Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain, according to the U.S. Navy.

China and Russian Federation have dispatched intelligence-gathering vessels from their navies to chase the USS Carl Vinson nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which is heading toward waters near the Korean Peninsula, multiple sources of the Japanese government revealed to The Yomiuri Shimbun.

Have you seen the Carl Vinson?

As tensions mounted on the Korean Peninsula, Adm. Harry Harris made a dramatic announcement: An aircraft carrier had been ordered to sail north from Singapore on April 8 toward the Western Pacific.

Tensions between North Korea and the USA rose ahead of the isolated nation's annual celebration of its founding, when it was expected to test its nuclear program.

North Korea and the U.S. have ratcheted up tensions in recent weeks and the movement of the strike group had raised the question of a pre-emptive strike by the US.
