Seahawks Trying to Deal Richard Sherman, But He'll Only Join a Contender

When I first heard the rumor that the Seattle Seahawks were considering trading Richard Sherman, I thought the idea was, to say the least, a very bad one. That may not have been the case.

"It has been my understanding all along that Richard Sherman was the one who initiated this", Schefter said, according to his colleague Sheil Kapadia.

Salguero also said the Seahawks want "a very good player plus a high draft pick" in exchange for Sherman and he thinks the team will have a hard time moving him because of the steep price. "Seahawks were obliging him and his request". Should the Jaguars try and piece together a trade offer for Sherman? How early of a pick would you be willing to give up for Sherman?

The high asking price is quite expensive but pretty straightforward considering that Richard Sherman has been one of the elite cornerbacks in the National Football League for the past several seasons.

Sherman has two years left on his contract. "And that's just the team-to-team cost of a potential deal".

On Thursday, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported the Seahawks would seek a "very good player plus a high draft pick" in a trade for Sherman. Of course, they also need to find eventual replacements for Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, and to that end, an additional first round pick could be useful in the search for safety depth. "The Seahawks want a lot to part with Sherman", Pelissero writes.

That's where I would project Sherman going prior to the draft, although I still think he'll remain in Seattle after the two sides work out their problems.

If Sherman really wants out and is not traded in the next few weeks, it will be worth watching to see if he attends the voluntary portions of the team's off-season program - Michael Bennett skipped OTAs in the past when he was unhappy with his contract. The Seahawks ain't getting a high pick and a good player on a cheap contract for him. They ranked in the top five in defensive DVOA (a highly accurate measure of the strength of a teams' defense) each year from 2012-2016. After extensive research, we have determined that Sherman's $11,431,000 cap hit is a larger number than the $1,952,019 the Eagles have under their cap. But if you're the Seahawks, you really hope to not get yourself in that position.
