Marlins' Mattingly says he talked to Jeter about ownership

According to Charlie Gasparino of Fox Business, Jeter has expressed interest in bidding for the Miami Marlins and is one of three bidders for the team. The study surveyed 2,700 participants this year (age 18 and older) and only 50 percent of them said they needed a financial plan that anticipates economic cycles, down from 57 percent in 2016.

Former presidential candidate and Florida governor Jeb Bush also is interested in making an offer for the Marlins, according to Fox Business, with a third group being composed of business executives who have backing from Goldman Sachs. Samson had said in February that multiple groups were interested in purchasing the club.

News of a potential sale of the franchise has picked up in the recent months, this coming after a Forbes report cited a handshake agreement between Marlins president David Samson and a New York City real estate developer worth $1.6 billion.

Bush's brother, former President George W. Bush, previously owned the Texas Rangers.

Jeter, whose post-baseball life has included marriage to model Hannah Davis and founding The Players' Tribune, has spoken often about his dream of owning a team since his 2014 retirement. While Loria has apparently not yet accepted any ambassador position, it seems a deal to sell the Marlins is still very much in the works.

There has been talk about the heinous Jeffrey Loria selling the Miami Marlins for years, and most of that talk has been put down pretty quickly. The website reported that, should Loria not get an ambassadorship, the Kushner family might re-engage in negotiations for the team. Under Loria, the Marlins have won one World Series title, in 2003 ironically against the Yankees, according to Christian Red of the New York Daily News.

They also moved into a new stadium.

A steady hand at the helm is what the Marlins could use after suffering through an owner who was just as irascible as Steinbrenner, but without the trophies. "And if that's the case, I wish him the best of luck".
