Pee Dee warned to brace for severe weather

"Based on the forecast and prediction of the National Weather Service Offices for Alabama, individuals should prepare for the potential of multiple rounds of severe weather tomorrow", Alabama Emergency Management Agency Director, Art Faulkner said.

The watch extends up through northwest Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky.

The National Weather Service predicts that this long duration weather event could contain two or three waves of scattered storms.

Damaging winds outlook: probability of damaging thunderstorm winds or wind gusts of 50 knots or higher within 25 miles of a point.

The Weather Channel's Weather.com indicates strong storms possibly will continue in the Columbus area until almost 5 p.m. Wednesday.

"An isolated severe thunderstorm is possible later this afternoon, however most of the severe weather is expected this evening into the overnight period", according to Pfaff's bulletin.

The system is tapping into surging warm and moist air from the Gulf to create another round of wicked weather conditions in the Southeast, including for some here in the north Florida / southern Georgia region.

The local area should be clear by about 5 p.m.

In Georgia, the National Weather Service's website says a tornado warning is now in effect until 9 a.m. for Carroll, Coweta, Fayette, Fulton and Heard counties.

The thunderstorms are likely to increase in coverage and intensity Thursday morning. A warning, however, indicates that severe weather has developed and is an immediate threat.

Then at 8:54 a.m., it issued a watch, a slightly less urgent alert. In fact, a high wind warning has been issued for parts of western North Carolina including Asheville. "Currently, the primary threat is from damaging wind gusts, followed by large hail and tornadoes".

By this afternoon, a significant severe weather outbreak is possible across the area, with an additional round of severe weather possible in the evening.
