Filibuster threat over Gorsuch nomination doesn't sit well with Nebraska senator (AUDIO)

Senator Dianne Feinstein says that Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch is unlike any other judge she has interrogated before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Tom Udall said Friday that he will oppose the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, partly because the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals judge failed to answer key questions during his Senate confirmation hearings this week. Schumer is going to force Gorsuch to get 60 votes or be replaced by a new nominee. He will vote no and vigorously stated, "He will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation". But the Senate requires confirmation of Supreme Court justices by the 60 votes needed to pass a procedural motion to block a "filibuster" effort to block a nomination.

Nothing revealed during Gorsuch's 20 hours of testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee and nothing that has been presented about his judicial background would suggest he is unprepared or unfit to take a seat on the high court.

But in response to Democratic criticism, he repeatedly said he has often ruled for the "little guy" over corporations. "But it wasn't done".

The mounting opposition to Gorsuch comes amid lingering fury from Democrats after Republicans blocked former President Barack Obama's nominee, Merrick Garland, having insisted that the next president make the nomination. "I just can't tell you exactly how that will happen yet", McConnell told the Associated Press this week. "Because that would be an absolute shame if a man of this quality was caught up in the web". Jeff Merkley (Oregon), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), and Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey (Mass.), who have already come out against Gorsuch. Republicans, for their part, have hinted that they will consider eliminating the filibuster on nominees, saying that Gorsuch will definitely be confirmed. The extractions the Democrats wanted, Politico reported, included a promise not to kill the filibuster for future nominees. If they can't, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the Republicans will have to decide whether to take the dramatic step of changing the vote threshold and essentially eliminating the filibuster.

With that slim margin, intense pressure will be placed on U.S. Sen.
