Driver strikes Capitol Police cruiser, taken into custody

The suspect is in custody.

No one was injured. Malecki said the incident involved a woman.

The Washington Post reported that the incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. local time outside the Rayburn building on the Capitol grounds.

The U.S. Capitol was placed on lockdown following reports Wednesday morning that shots were fired after a erratic driver almost struck several Capitol Police officers.

The incident occurred near the Botanic Gardens.

Capitol Police said at least one officer opened fire on the suspect.

A Capitol Police source said there was a traffic incident that involved gunshots being fired. The source also said there was damage to a police cruiser. Police apprehended the driver at 3rd and Independence Avenue SW.

Her family later said she had been suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis.

Police say an erratic driver was stopped near the Capitol Hill district.

Shots were fired near a checkpoint on Capitol Hill, where the American Congress is located in Washington DC.

CNN has reached out to Capitol Police but did not immediately receive a response.

Police pursued the vehicle after it attempting to flee, almost striking Capitol Police officers and eventually hitting another vehicle.
