Cheerios offers free wildflower seeds to help save the bee population

The brand pulled its bee mascot Buzz from the front of cereal boxes in the US this month to call attention to the alarming decline in pollinator populations around the world. The cereal company has pledged to give away 100 million wildflower seeds in an effort to help people across the country create bee-friendly habitats in their yard.

Anyone interested in helping with the #BringBackTheBees campaign can sign up here to receive 100 free seeds.

Not only did they remove Buzz to make you think a little bit, the company is also urging customers to go to their website to order wildflower seeds - for free!

The dramatic loss in bee numbers is believed to be due to a combination of habitat loss, disease, pesticide use and climate change.

Cherrios partnered with Veseys Seeds for their #BringBacktheBees campaign, which hits close to home for Cherrios, since their mascot, Buzz, is a honeybee!

A major decline in bee populations happened in 2008, and was determined to be a case of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
