Osweiler named starter for Texans' playoff game

This was the best possible landing spot for the Raiders once the division title faded away on Sunday with the Week 17 loss in Denver to the Broncos.

On the other hand, the Texans would be one of the more attractive vacancies out there, though I'm now not seeing too many coaches on the market that really get me excited.

For their first playoff game since 2002, the Raiders might turn to third-string QB Connor Cook. We know that it was not the offensive line or running game; because the Cowboys have a great line and Darren McFadden ran for over 1000 yards last season. Those defeats came at New England, in Mexico City against Oakland and Green Bay.

After leading the Texans to a 21-20 comeback defeat of the Jaguars, Savage got the start in a 12-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Whoever starts against Oakland likely will be joined by another substitute for the Raiders. Osweiler has struggled all year with taking care of the ball, as well as keeping the passing game alive, so the Raiders should have a good time trying to limit this anemic Houston offense this Saturday. Osweiler was the NFL's second-lowest rated QB this season.

If Savage is able to clear the concussion protocol before the end of the week, he will serve as Osweiler's backup for this game.

I look for the 3½-point favored Texans to win in a defensive battle 16-14. In receiving, DeAndre Hopkins posted 954 yards and four touchdowns in 78 receptions while Will Fuller V added 635 yards and two touchdowns.

Nearly every article about the upcoming playoffs mentions the fact the Seattle Seahawks will have a more hard time on defense because of the absence of free safety Earl Thomas, who's rehabilitating from a broken bone in his leg. Seattle also plays Saturday at home against the Detroit Lions. In fact, the Texans finished first overall in total defense, which is measured by yards allowed.

There was a report from Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer on the possibility of Bill O'Brien moving on if the Texans falter in the playoffs. That was the 11th-best total in the National Football League overall, and McKinney added five sacks as well. That too could leave Brandon Weeden backing up Brock Osweiler in the wildcard playoff game. He's been awesome this year, with 52 tackles, six sacks, a forced fumble and excellent run defense. Although both teams may be playing a different quarterback this time around.

Will you be chancing any Raiders in your DFS lineup this week? He's completed 67.3 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and an interception for a 86.5 passer rating - about 9 points higher than his career mark.
